Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

Long-term accessibility and preservation of the scholarly record

Jurnal Pengabdian dan Pengembangan Masyarakat Indonesia (JPPMI) is committed to maintaining the long-term accessibility, integrity, and recoverability of its published content and associated bibliographic metadata.

Digital preservation is managed through a combination of journal-platform maintenance, scheduled backups, persistent identifiers, metadata distribution, version-of-record preservation, and permitted repository deposit by authors.

Preservation Principles

  • Published content should remain permanently discoverable;
  • The published version of record must be protected from unauthorized alteration;
  • Backups must be maintained separately from the active journal installation;
  • Corrections and retractions must remain linked to the original article;
  • Bibliographic metadata must be maintained and recoverable; and
  • Preservation claims must accurately reflect services that are technically active.

1. Content Covered

Preservation measures apply to:

  • Published article landing pages;
  • PDF, HTML, and other published article formats;
  • Article titles, abstracts, keywords, author information, and references;
  • DOI and bibliographic metadata;
  • Supplementary files published with an article;
  • Correction, retraction, and expression-of-concern notices; and
  • Issue information, publication history, and licensing information.

2. Preservation Measures

Scheduled backups Protects the OJS database, uploaded files, public files, and essential configuration data
Separate backup storage Reduces the risk of losing both the active system and its backup during one incident
DOI registration Provides persistent identification and updated bibliographic linking
Metadata distribution Improves discovery and preserves bibliographic information across relevant services
Repository deposit Permits distributed access through institutional and other appropriate repositories

3. Backup and Recovery

The publisher is responsible for maintaining scheduled backups of the OJS database, article files, public files, and essential system configuration. At least one backup copy should be stored separately from the active server and protected by appropriate access controls.

Backup files should be periodically checked, and recovery procedures should be tested to confirm that journal data can be restored after technical failure, security incidents, accidental deletion, or other service disruption.

Third-Party Preservation Networks

JPPMI will identify LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, PKP Preservation Network, or another third-party preservation service on this page only after participation has been technically activated and can be verified. Installation of OJS alone does not constitute active participation in an external preservation network.

4. Preservation of the Version of Record

Published articles are treated as versions of record. Material changes are not made silently. Corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern are issued as separate notices and permanently linked to the affected article. The DOI and bibliographic record are retained and updated to reflect the article's current status.

5. Journal Discontinuation

If JPPMI ceases publication, reasonable measures will be taken to keep previously published content accessible. Content and metadata may be maintained on the existing platform, transferred to another responsible platform, or deposited in an appropriate preservation or institutional repository.

Exceptional Content Removal

Published content is removed only in exceptional circumstances, such as a binding legal order, serious privacy violation, unlawful content, or an immediate and substantial risk of harm. When possible, the bibliographic landing page will remain available with an explanation of the removal.

Accuracy of Preservation Claims

JPPMI is committed to publishing only preservation information that reflects its actual technical arrangements. This page will be updated when an additional preservation service is activated, changed, or discontinued.
