Aims

Jurnal Pengabdian dan Pengembangan Masyarakat Indonesia (JPPMI) is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes scholarly articles on community engagement, community empowerment, and evidence-informed development initiatives. The journal provides an academic platform for documenting, evaluating, and disseminating community-based interventions implemented by academics, practitioners, government institutions, civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.

JPPMI aims to advance the quality of community engagement by promoting systematic approaches to needs assessment, intervention design, implementation, outcome evaluation, stakeholder participation, and program sustainability. Published articles are expected to demonstrate a clear community problem, an appropriate intervention, measurable outcomes, critical reflection, and practical implications for community development.

The journal welcomes multidisciplinary contributions, provided that the manuscript maintains a clear and substantive connection to community engagement or community development. JPPMI particularly encourages collaborative, participatory, culturally responsive, and sustainable approaches that address locally identified needs.

Journal Focus

The primary focus of JPPMI is the development and evaluation of community-based programs that strengthen knowledge, skills, participation, resilience, independence, well-being, and the sustainable use of local resources.

Scope

JPPMI considers manuscripts addressing community engagement and development within the following thematic areas:

1. Community Empowerment and Social Development

Participatory community development, social inclusion, community resilience, poverty reduction, capacity building, social innovation, volunteerism, and programs for vulnerable or underserved populations.

2. Community Health and Well-Being

Health promotion, disease prevention, nutrition education, maternal and child health, environmental health, sanitation, mental health, healthy lifestyles, and community-based health interventions.

3. Education, Literacy, and Human Capacity Development

Community education, digital literacy, financial literacy, scientific literacy, inclusive education, teacher and youth development, vocational skills, lifelong learning, and community-based educational innovation.

4. Local Economic Development and Social Entrepreneurship

Development of micro, small, and medium enterprises; entrepreneurship; cooperatives; financial inclusion; local product innovation; creative industries; marketing; and community-based economic empowerment.

5. Appropriate Technology and Digital Transformation

Application and transfer of appropriate technology, digital platforms, information systems, technological adaptation, product development, and innovations designed to address identified community needs.

6. Environment, Agriculture, and Sustainable Communities

Environmental conservation, waste management, climate adaptation, food security, sustainable agriculture, fisheries, coastal and rural development, disaster preparedness, and the sustainable management of local resources.

7. Culture, Local Knowledge, and Community Cohesion

Preservation and application of local knowledge, cultural development, social cohesion, intercultural engagement, community arts, and culturally responsive approaches to community empowerment.

Eligible Contributions

Manuscripts submitted to JPPMI should present one or more of the following:

  • Implementation and evaluation of community-based interventions;
  • Participatory action and community empowerment programs;
  • Application or transfer of appropriate technology to communities;
  • Community education, training, mentoring, or capacity-building programs;
  • Development and evaluation of community-based models or innovations;
  • Evidence-based case studies with transferable lessons for other communities; or
  • Critical evaluations of the effectiveness, limitations, and sustainability of community engagement programs.

Manuscript Expectations

A manuscript should clearly describe:

  • The community context and identified problem;
  • The needs assessment and rationale for the intervention;
  • The target community and stakeholder involvement;
  • The intervention methods and implementation process;
  • Relevant ethical considerations and informed consent;
  • The indicators and methods used to evaluate outcomes;
  • The results and their practical significance;
  • The limitations of the program; and
  • The sustainability, follow-up plan, or potential for replication.

Out of Scope

JPPMI does not normally consider:

  • Pure research articles without a substantive community engagement or development component;
  • Descriptive reports that only document an activity without systematic evaluation or measurable outcomes;
  • Ceremonial activities, one-time social events, or donation programs without capacity-building or sustainability components;
  • Manuscripts that do not clearly identify the community problem, intervention process, and results;
  • Classroom-based teaching activities without direct and meaningful community involvement; and
  • Manuscripts outside the journal's focus on community engagement, empowerment, and sustainable development.
