Data Sharing Policy

Transparency, accessibility, and responsible protection of community data

Jurnal Pengabdian dan Pengembangan Masyarakat Indonesia (JPPMI) supports responsible data sharing to improve transparency, reproducibility, verification, and the responsible reuse of evidence generated through community engagement and development programs.

Data sharing must remain consistent with participant consent, community agreements, ethics approval, privacy protection, institutional policies, intellectual-property rights, and applicable laws. JPPMI does not require authors to publicly disclose identifiable, confidential, sensitive, or legally restricted data.

Required Data Availability Statement

Every manuscript must include a Data Availability Statement after the conclusion. The statement must explain whether supporting data are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, subject to restrictions, included within the article, or not applicable.

1. Data Covered by This Policy

Supporting materials may include:

  • De-identified quantitative datasets;
  • Survey instruments and questionnaires;
  • Interview or observation guides;
  • Data dictionaries and coding frameworks;
  • Intervention materials and educational modules;
  • Analytical code or calculation procedures;
  • Protocols and implementation manuals;
  • Other materials needed to understand or verify the reported findings.

3. Suggested Data Availability Statements

Publicly available data

“The de-identified data supporting the findings of this article are available in [repository name] at [persistent URL or DOI].”

Available upon reasonable request

“The de-identified data supporting the findings are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request and subject to applicable ethical and institutional requirements.”

Restricted data

“The data are not publicly available because they contain information subject to participant privacy, community agreements, and institutional confidentiality requirements.”

Not applicable

“Data sharing is not applicable because no new dataset was generated or analyzed for this article.”

4. Repositories and Data Citation

When possible, authors should use a recognized institutional, disciplinary, or general-purpose repository that provides a persistent identifier and stable access conditions. Personal cloud-storage links should not be used as the primary long-term repository.

Shared datasets should be cited in the manuscript and reference list, including the creator, year, title, repository, version, and persistent identifier when available.

5. Privacy and Sensitive Community Data

  • Direct participant identifiers must be removed when unnecessary.
  • Small locations or detailed characteristics must not indirectly identify participants.
  • Consent for participation does not automatically authorize public data sharing.
  • Data concerning minors or vulnerable participants require additional protection.
  • Identifiable photographs, recordings, and quotations must not be deposited without permission.
  • Community-owned or culturally sensitive information must be shared only under appropriate agreements.

Editorial Access to Supporting Data

Editors may confidentially request relevant data, instruments, consent information, or analytical documentation when needed to evaluate a manuscript or investigate a publication concern. Failure to provide reasonable supporting evidence may affect the editorial decision or result in post-publication action.

Effective Date

The requirement to include a Data Availability Statement applies to manuscripts submitted on or after 1 September 2026. Its absence from an earlier publication should not, by itself, be interpreted as evidence of non-compliance because the statement was not routinely required under the journal's previous policy.
